Following a frantic year of 2025, characterized by regulatory backlash and state lawsuits, the U.S. sweepstakes casino industry was, according to many, doomed to fail. However, things have turned out quite differently in 2026.

Political action against sweepstakes platforms slowed down, the number of U.S. new operators grew exponentially, and overall search interest in sweepstakes casinos grew 30% over the course of the last 12 months.

Some states, such as Florida, are still fighting for statewide bans, but online gambling legalization ballots haven’t been as effective as before, as exemplified by the recent Maryland ballot. Today more than ever, the U.S. sweepstakes market seems to be unaffected by the endless lawsuits and legislative red tape.

Meanwhile, more and more U.S. gamblers have joined sweepstakes platforms, with the popularity of the new dual-currency format surpassing traditional social casinos, which relied solely on for-fun tokens.

As the segment’s valuation has surpassed $9 billion, we decided to investigate how sweepstakes casinos have been adapting to the growing demand, competition, and potential for profit.

What we discovered is that, more than ready-made, money-grabbing services, U.S. sweepstakes casinos have developed into community-based platforms, powered by new types of emerging technology.

AI Integration in the Sweepstakes Casino Market

Considering how rapidly AI has penetrated virtually every area of society, it’s no surprise that modern sweepstakes platforms have been leaning heavily on the technology. What’s surprising, though, is the way how AI is being used in the market.

Instead of turning to AI-generated games, customer support chatbots, and other shortcuts, sweepstakes developers have harnessed the power of AI to improve customer experience, promote responsible gaming, and detect frauds.

The bottom line? The U.S.’s leading sweepstakes casinos are no longer interested in making a quick buck; instead, they’re using AI technology to improve their features, promote transparency, and become safer.

To do so, they have relied on innovative AI solutions such as:

  • Responsible-gaming intervention: AI is used to identify patterns associated with excessive gambling and trigger warnings, suggestions, or limits automatically. This not only removes the human bias traditionally associated with responsible gaming mechanisms but also allows platforms to tackle risky behavior more quickly and efficiently.
  • Fraud detection: Sweepstakes casinos have also been using AI to flag patterns associated with the most common online-gambling frauds, including bonus abuse, cheating, and even money laundering.
  • Personalized recommendations: Similar to the algorithmic recommendations one would see on YouTube or Netflix, but powered by AI technology. It’s mainly used for game discovery, but it can cover everything from new promotions to tier-based rewards.

All things considered, there’s no denying AI has made sweepstakes platforms safer and more usable in 2026. But the improvements don’t end here…

Biometrics and Multi-Signal Geolocation: The KYC Revolution

To ensure only authorized players are allowed to access sweepstakes games, the most advanced U.S. platforms have strengthened user verification processes to the max. The two emerging technologies behind it? Biometrics and multi-signal geolocation.

In the iGaming industry, user verification is known as Know Your Customer (KYC), and it has been a concern of market operators since the dawn of online casinos at the turn of the millennium.

The incorporation of biometrics has revolutionized KYC processes in the sweepstakes segment by allowing users to verify their identity by using a government-issued ID and a selfie. Following the upload, facial recognition kicks in to make sure the provided ID and selfie match.

Multi-signal geolocation provides the extra layer of defense that makes KYC virtually uncheatable by allowing sweepstakes casinos to accurately track the physical location of new users.

How Multi-Signal Location Works (According to an Expert)

To learn more about how it works, we have contacted the lead developer of the sweepstakes casino Titan Treasure, where multi-signal location has assisted KYC verification since day one:

“In simple terms, multi-signal location is about collecting as many location clues as possible to determine if (1) the user IP is suspicious or (2) the detected signals agree.

At Titan Treasure, we focus on five essential location clues: the IP address, the device’s location, Wi-Fi information, VPN detection, and, if possible, GPS data. In the past, iGaming platforms relied on only one or two of these signals to guess a user’s location, and that made them extremely prone to mistakes – a big no-no when it comes to KYC verification.

In practice, this is how it works: if all the signals disagree, then the user is flagged as suspicious and potentially prevented from verifying their account.

However, if three or even four of the five signals agree, it’s generally possible to “guess”, with a high degree of certainty, where the user is really located.

For example: if the VPN location is set as California, but the other four signals indicate New York, it’s safe to assume that the user is physically located in New York.”

What’s Next?

Commenting on the future of sweepstakes casinos, Titan Treasure’s lead developer mentioned zero-trust security models and extended reality as two of the most interesting new technologies for operators in the segment (coincidentally, they have both been on Cambridge Open Academy’s list of the top 10 technology trends in 2026).
