Netflix, a subscription-based streaming service that lets you watch and download award-winning TV shows, movies, documentaries and more on Internet-connected devices. Microsoft Windows 10 gives you a native application to watch your favorite Netflix videos or access them through a web browser, as well as netflix.com. However, some Windows users report getting a black screen when they try to launch Netflix or open the Netflix application in Windows 10. It’s frustrating when a black Netflix screen prevents you from watching your favorite shows, but don’t worry, we have a few solutions to fix a black Netflix screen with or without sound in Window 10.
Why is my Netflix screen black?
There are several reasons why the Netflix screen may be black in window 10. If you get a black screen in the Netflix application, the usual cause may be an outdated graphics driver. Again: If you are seeing a black screen in a web browser like B. Chrome, it is possible that an outdated browser, Chrome extensions, cookies and navigation data are causing the problem.
We have divided the solutions into two parts: for a black Netflix screen in the application, and for a black Netflix screen in the browser.
Netflix black screen in Chrome browser
If you are getting a black Netflix screen with sound in the Chrome browser, the following solutions will help you solve the problem.
We recommend restarting your browser and trying to reopen netflix.com before applying solutions.
Temporarily disable third-party security software (antivirus) and open Netflix to see if it is responsible for this problem. Also make sure to disable the VPN (if configured on your computer).
Chrome Browser Update
The first thing you need to do is to make sure your browser is up to date, because we all know that outdated browsers cause various problems in most cases, including browser crash or black window while browsing the web.
To update Google Chrome :
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Select the menu icon in the top right corner of your browser.
- Select Help, then About Google Chrome.
- Chrome displays the current version and automatically installs available updates.
- Click the Restart button to complete the update.
Start the browser as administrator
Again, your browser may not have administrator privileges, so Netflix may not work with a black screen in your browser.
To start the browser as an administrator :
- Close the browser completely (if it is active).
- Right-click on the shortcut icon in your browser (e.g. Chrome) and select Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab and select the Run this program as administrator check box.
- Click Apply and OK to save your changes.
- Now open a web browser and go to netflix.com to check the status of the black screen problem.

Delete cookies and Netflix browser data
Netflix’s transparent cookies are another effective solution to this problem.
- You need to go to netflix.com/clearcookies.
- Click Sign in with your Netflix email address and password.
- Once cookies are deleted, they are removed from your account,
- Log in and try watching Netflix again to see if this fixes the problem.
In addition to the display, the data also interferes with the normal operation of Netflix and causes black screen issues. And deleting navigation data can help solve this problem.
- Open the Chrome browser, click on the menu icon in the top right corner.
- Select Advanced Tools > Clear Navigation Data.
- Select the items you want to delete and click Delete Data.

Disable Chrome extension
If you have added various extensions to your Chrome to take advantage of additional features, these extensions may conflict with Netflix and cause a Netflix black screen issue.
- Open the Chrome browser and go to Chrome://extensions/.
- A list of all installed Chrome extensions will be displayed,
- Turn them all off and check the status of the Netflix Black Screen problem.
- Once the issue is resolved, enable the extensions one by one to find out which one is causing the problem.

- Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc and press ok
- The Device Manager opens and displays a list of all installed device drivers,
- Unfold the display adapter, right click on the installed graphics driver and select Uninstall
