In 2022, one of the best ways to switch to a more lucrative career is to break into the tech industry. In such a technology-focussed, fast-moving world, a career in tech not only provides individuals with the chance to be part of something bigger in companies that are changing how we move through society, but often tech roles provide much more flexibility by way of remote working and better benefits.

However, without a college degree in Computer Science or Mathematics, the world of tech can often seem like one with a large barrier to entry. But it is not a lost cause! There are some easier ways to break into working in tech.

Take an Online Course

One of the best ways to up your employability by tech companies is to take an online course to show that you are not only serious about your career change but also that you are well versed in some technical areas. For example, there are free courses available that teach computer programming and web design and will give you experience in using HTML or a programming language like Java. You can also enroll in courses that will make you a certified full stack developer. A lot of these courses will also offer a certificate of completion so that you can stand out against the crowd when applying for entry-level web design or developer positions.

There are also online courses available in mathematics and computer science which don’t require a degree, so if you are more interested in the hardware of how computers work, then there will still be options available to you to set yourself up on the right foot. For many entry-level positions, as long as you have some basic experience and are willing to learn, your attitude and willingness to learn in the role will be far more useful when it comes to an interview with a tech company.

Make Sure You Have the Right Set-Up

One of the best investments you can make into your new career in tech is to make sure your setup is optimal for not only your learning but especially for your working environment. For tech freelancers, their equipment is their lifeline, and without a computer that can keep up with the busy demands of a technical role, you may find yourself limited in the roles you can apply for. As you learn more, too, you will need a computer that can support your learning as you discover new programs and tools that you will need to run on your PC.

Luckily, there are companies that can offer the perfect equipment for both learning about technical roles and programming and also for working once you have broken into the industry. For example, there are many options available for Lenovo programming computers that will give you the best chance to succeed, with power boasting Intel vPro and Xeon processors, which will be more than enough to help you do your best work.

Network, Network, Network!

Finally, once you have ensured you have a strong knowledge foundation and the best setup for learning and working, a good way to help your transition into the tech industry is to network with tech professionals, using sites like LinkedIn to connect with individuals already in the industry at the companies you want to work for. This will allow you to speak with them about what they like about the industry and ask for any tips and tricks for securing a role.

You may also be able to apply for programming roles directly through career sites, allowing you to gain interview experience and land a role at your dream company in your new-found industry.

In short, moving into the world of tech, especially as a programmer, will open up lots of doors to a new lifestyle thanks to a higher salary and extra benefits. It will also significantly improve job security as the world adapts to more tech-dominated societies. Simply by learning some new skills, networking with professionals, and upgrading your computer equipment, you can put yourself in the best position to change your life!
