With the GoPro camera, we can take great videos of us diving, surfing, biking, skiing, traveling or any other activity. However, when you import GoPro videos to your computer, TV, iPhone, iPad, Android phone or other player, we find that some or all GoPro videos do not play properly. The playback may be jerky or jarring. It plays normally for a few seconds and then freezes. Or we only hear the sound and don’t see the video. What does it mean that the GoPro footage is not being broadcast? What can we do to solve these problems?
If GoPro videos are not playing smoothly on your computer, the first thing to check is whether the video is playing directly from the GoPro camera’s SD card. If yes, copy the video from the SD card to the hard drive and try again. In fact, interruptions in playback are sometimes caused by reading from the SD memory card. If your GoPro video still doesn’t play properly, there are a few other possible causes
Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for playback.
Your computer may not have the necessary specifications to play GoPro videos. In most cases, these are not 4K videos, so you will not be able to play GoPro videos on your computer.
- Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for 4K video playback:
- GPU Video Memory: 1 GB
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 7200 RPM hard drive or SSD
- Processor: Intel Xeon E5 Hexa-Core or better / Intel Core i7 Quad-Core or better
- Graphic Processor : Discrete graphics: GeForce GTX 650 Ti or better; AMD A10-7800 APU
- Integrated graphics : Intel HD Graphics 5000 or higher; AMD Radeon HD 7000 series or higher
If not, update it. Below are some examples of 4K @ 60 and 4K @ 30 video playback with dedicated processors and GPUs.

Playing videos with VLC Media Player
VLC is a free media player that doesn’t require a lot of resources to run on your computer. This allows your computer to concentrate more on reading. It also has access to additional codecs that Windows Media Player does not have.
Start the VLC media player. Play the video by dragging it to the media player or by right-clicking the video and selecting Open with > VLC Media Player from the context menu.
H.264 video compression
You can try setting your GoPro camera (HERO6, HERO7 Black and HERO8 Black) to compress video in H.264 format, not just HEVC (H.265). Images can be shot at different resolutions and at different frame rates, so the limitations are minimal. H.264 is preferred by younger computers because it offers maximum compatibility with older devices. Unlike HEVC or H.265, playback does not require a powerful processor. You can find this option under
Step one: Turn on your GoPro camera. Swipe left on the rear LCD panel. Access the resolution and frame rate settings.
Step two: Select an option that records in H.264 instead of H.265.
