Every household or building has a washing machine. Some even have several and a dryer. Although it is normal to use such a machine, many people do not know how. Since it is used at least once a week, this is the perfect opportunity to learn how to use it. It’s not rocket science, and neither is playing live blackjack online.

The fact is, there is no life without a washing machine. It’s not like a dishwasher, where the alternative of washing the dishes by hand is acceptable. The laundry does not get as clean as it does in the machine when washed by hand. But there is much more to know. How should you use it? What to consider in order to protect the environment and save money and water.

Things That Are Unknown About Washing Machines: From Temperature To Program

At first glance, the short wash program in washing machines and dishwashers may seem environmentally friendly. We explain to you why you should rather do without it and how you can protect the environment when washing.

Why You Should Avoid The Short Wash Program

If you read “short wash program,” you might think that this is more environmentally friendly than a regular wash program because of the shorter duration – similar to a short shower. But appearances are deceptive: after all, short durations increase energy consumption.

The detergent cannot work as well during the short wash time, so the washing machine has to heat up the water very quickly. Often, water consumption is also higher. This means that the short wash programs – both for the washing machine and the dishwasher – consume more water and electricity. As a result, they are expensive and pollute the environment.

By choosing a power-saving or eco-program, on the other hand, you’ll be much more economical and environmentally friendly: after all, a longer runtime requires less electricity and lower temperatures. The washing program can develop its full effect.

Dry Your Clothes in The Sun Instead of Using The Dryer

If you don’t use a short wash program, you’ll be much more environmentally friendly when washing your clothes or dishes. We have also put together four important tips for sustainable washing with the washing machine and dishwasher:

The right balance: Make sure you use the right amount of detergent or rinse aid – too much is often used, which can lead to residues on clothes and dishes. No pre-rinsing or pre-washing: For normally soiled dishes or laundry, pre-washing or pre-rinsing is not necessary. It is, therefore, better to do without and save water and energy in the process. Stubborn stains on clothing can be treated in advance with bile soap.

No half-full machines: For the sake of the environment, you should always fill the washing machine and dishwasher completely. However, you should also avoid overfilling the washing machine. If the machine is only half full, you waste a lot of water and energy unnecessarily.

Do not use a dryer: A dryer consumes a lot of energy. You can save this – along with the high costs – after the wash cycle by drying your laundry either outside on a clothesline or inside on a clotheshorse. Especially during summer, that is no big deal. But if it is cold outside and you have only a small apartment and not enough space to let it dry, not having a dryer could turn into a problem.

But on the other hand, dryers are also not cheap regarding the purchase and electricity. So it depends on your circumstances. But the fact is even if you have one, use it wisely, same as the washing machine.
